Fort Worth Zoo sets record attendance
Spring break families flock to Zoo on half-price Wednesday
|
FORT WORTH, Texas – Wednesday, March 18, the Fort Worth Zoo set an all-time single day attendance record. At closing time, Zoo officials determined that at least 23,000 guests visited the park.* The previous single day attendance record, 17,274 was set on Good Friday in March 2008.
Zoo management attributes the record-setting attendance to the economic conditions keeping more people at home for vacation, half-price Wednesday admission discount, Dallas and Fort Worth ISD’s spring break week and sunny, warm weather conditions.
In conjunction with the Fort Worth Police Department, the Zoo planned several alternate routes beyond the standard I-30 to University Drive exit and provided parking in several auxiliary lots surrounding the Zoo during spring break week.
The Zoo was recently ranked the #5 zoo in the nation by USA Travel Guide, and more than 1 million people visit the 100-year-old Zoo each year.
The Fort Worth Zoo is open 365 days a year and regular admission rates are $12 for adults, $8 for children (ages 3 to12), FREE for toddlers 2 and under and $7 for seniors. Admission is half-price every Wednesday. For more information, visit the Zoo’s website at www.fortworthzoo.org.
The nationally ranked Fort Worth Zoo was recently ranked the number one attraction in the Dallas / Fort Worth Metroplex by Zagat survey. Home to more than 500 animal species and a world-famous reptile collection, the Zoo supports more than 20 conservation projects around the globe. The institution’s focus on education and conservation is second to none, enhancing the lives of more than 1 million visitors a year.
*23,000 is the available attendance figure at 5 p.m. CST on March 18, 2009.
