You'd think with their necks being nearly half the length of their bodies, there would be more potential for a sore throat. But, just because giraffes have long necks does not mean they get sore throats more often than any other animal. Usually they don't get sore throats at all, but sometimes they eat sharp twigs or sticks that can make their throat a bit sore. Another common myth is that giraffes have lots of vertebrae (bones) in their necks to make them so long. Actually they have seven cervical vertebrae just like most mammals, including you!
