FORT WORTH ZOO ONCE AGAIN NAMED A TOP 5 ZOO
May 03, 2019
FORT WORTH, Texas – The results are in for USA Today’s 10 Best Zoos, and the Fort Worth Zoo is proud to announce that it has been named the No. 4 zoo in the nation. In addition, the Zoo’s African Savanna placed 6th in the Best Zoo Exhibit category.
These are the latest honors for the internationally recognized zoo, which has been ranked the Best Zoo in Texas by Yahoo Travel and the No. 1 attraction in the DFW Metroplex by Zagat survey. This is the third year of the USA Today polling and the third year the Zoo has finished in the top 5.
USA Today assembled a panel of industry experts who created the lists of zoos and exhibits it deemed the top 20 in North America. The newspaper then opened the voting, asking the public to choose the top 10. Voters could vote once a day, every day for four weeks until the contest closed on Monday, April 22. The final rankings were revealed this morning, Friday, May 3.
The Zoo is especially proud to have its newest exhibit, African Savanna, recognized, as the exhibit is just the first of four phases of “A Wilder Vision,” a $100-million master plan that will completely redesign the Fort Worth Zoo with renovated and reimagined habitats. The plan will not only allow guests to observe and interact with animals in ways that weren’t possible before, but it will also allow the Zoo to continue to be an international leader in conservation and animal care.
“Thank you for casting your votes and once again putting an international spotlight on the Fort Worth Zoo,” said Michael Fouraker, Fort Worth Zoo executive director. “It is the work of our dedicated staff and the support from our loyal guests and friends that make the Fort Worth Zoo truly special.”
The nationally acclaimed Fort Worth Zoo has been ranked the No. 4 zoo in the nation by USA Today, the Best Zoo in Texas by Yahoo Travel, the No. 5 zoo in the nation by USA Travel Guide, the No. 1 attraction in the DFW Metroplex by Zagat survey and a top 10 zoo or aquarium by FamilyFun magazine and TripAdvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Awards. Home to more than 7,000 animals, the Zoo is in the second of a four-phase, $100-million master plan. The first phase, African Savanna, opened in April 2018. The second, Elephant Springs, will open in 2020. The institution’s focus on education and conservation is second to none, enhancing the lives of more than one million visitors a year.
