Born on January 4, our newest African penguin chick is a girl! Meet Shirley. Today, keepers gave her a quick checkup, vaccines and weighed her. She weighs 6.7 pounds, which is more than some of the adults in the flock! She’s in her “chubby baby phase” and will slim down once her juvenile feathers come in and she starts to move around some more. Foster parents Tom and Penny are taking great care of her as she continues to grow quickly (her bio mom has joint issues that make raising a chick difficult). If you’re lucky, you might catch a glimpse of the fuzzy baby peeking out of the nesting pods around the penguin pool. You can "adopt" Shirley here!
